Darren

Darren Knight’s journey is a remarkable testament to resilience, courage, and a relentless commitment to driving change. Since being diagnosed with HIV, Darren turned what could have been a moment of despair into a mission of purpose and empowerment. Today, as the Chief Executive of George House Trust—a charity supporting people living with and affected by HIV—he stands as a symbol of hope and a fierce advocate against stigma, inspiring others to live with confidence and pride.

When Darren stepped into his role as CEO in September 2020, the world was navigating the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic. Despite the uncertainty, Darren’s resolve remained steadfast. With almost two decades of experience in the charitable sector, he brought profound empathy, personal insight, and an unwavering dedication to justice and community. For Darren, this work is not just professional but deeply personal.

Darren’s career reflects his lifelong commitment to amplifying marginalised voices. Before joining George House Trust, he served as Chief Executive of Bolton CVS, where he empowered grassroots organisations to create lasting impact. During his decade at the LGBT Foundation, he championed equality and inclusion as the Head of Policy and Engagement. He led Shelter’s Inspiring Change Manchester program, advocating for systemic reform and social justice for vulnerable communities.

Darren’s influence extends far beyond his professional achievements. In his personal life, he’s the Chair of the Octagon Theatre in Bolton, a trustee for Lloyds Bank Foundation and The Loop, and a volunteer befriender with Senior Solutions to support older adults. At home in Westhoughton, he shares a life filled with love and connection with his husband Andy and their dog Fletcher, embodying the values of compassion and community that drive his work.

Under Darren’s transformative leadership, George House Trust has expanded its mission, offering more significant support, education, and inspiration to HIV-positive people. His vision is both bold and urgent: a world free of HIV stigma, where everyone can live openly and confidently without fear or judgment. Darren is determined to ensure that no one facing an HIV diagnosis feels alone or unsupported.

Darren Knight is more than a leader—he is a change-maker, a source of compassion, and a tireless advocate for dignity and equality. His story inspires action, hope, and a belief in a future where every individual can thrive regardless of diagnosis.
