Embracing his status as an individual living with HIV, Harold chose to channel his experiences into activism and public service. He became a vocal advocate for the rights and needs of people living with HIV, understanding firsthand the importance of access to comprehensive healthcare and support systems and the need to combat stigma and discrimination.
Professionally, Harold’s journey led him to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), where he contributed significantly to the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. This program is crucial in providing medical care and support services to individuals living with HIV who lack sufficient healthcare coverage or financial resources. His work at HRSA allowed him to impact policies and programs that directly benefit those living with HIV, aligning with his mission.
In 2021, Harold’s dedication and expertise culminated in his appointment by President Joe Biden as the Director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP). In this role, Harold is responsible for coordinating national efforts to end the HIV epidemic, working to reduce new infections, improve health outcomes, and eliminate health disparities.
