Pank

Pank Sethi’s journey is one of profound resilience and courage, marked by his unwavering commitment to advocating for those living with HIV. Born in India and raised in London, Pank faced the harsh realities of stigma and discrimination head-on, particularly during his time in the UK prison system. His story is about survival and transformation—both personal and systemic.

Diagnosed with HIV, Pank’s life took a challenging turn when he was incarcerated. In prison, the stigma attached to his HIV status and sexuality became painfully evident, isolating him from his peers and subjecting him to relentless discrimination. Yet, instead of succumbing to despair, Pank chose to stand up, not just for himself but for others in similar circumstances. He refused to be broken by the system. Instead, he became a beacon of strength and knowledge, educating fellow inmates about HIV and challenging the deep-seated prejudices within the prison walls.

Upon his release, Pank’s advocacy work only intensified. He became a central figure in London’s Fast-Track Cities initiative, where he serves as an HIV Ambassador. In this role, Pank leverages his personal story to educate and inspire others, aiming to eradicate new HIV transmissions in London by 2030 and eliminate the stigma that still surrounds the virus. His work with the Positive East and other leading organizations underscores his commitment to changing the narrative around HIV, not just in healthcare but across society.

Pank’s involvement with the Shannon Trust further exemplifies his dedication to using his experiences to foster change. As a mentor and advocate, he focuses on supporting and empowering those within the criminal justice system, ensuring that no one else faces the kind of isolation and prejudice he endured.

Pank Sethi’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have when they choose to confront their challenges with dignity and resolve. His work continues to break down barriers, creating a more informed and compassionate world for people living with HIV.
